Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday that his agency’s independent watchdog has said that the department’s analysis of the Republican tax proposal was not subject to political interference.

“Democrats made a bunch of noise about our numbers at tax policy. The inspector general just came out with a report that made very clear there was no political interference in how we ran these numbers,” Mnuchin said at a White House briefing.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, asked the inspector general to investigate after Treasury did not release an analysis of the proposed legislation that Mnuchin had promised.

Warren had asked Inspector General Eric Thorson to probe whether the report was not released because it would contradict White House claims that the corporate tax cuts would pay for themselves.
